Glasgow Lesbians Loose in Dels, FHQ and Polo…

I was sitting, well lying in my bed most of the day today, nursing a slightly annoying hangover, not a bad one, just one of those over-tired hangovers.

The hangover or over-tiredness was due to being out last night with my friend Steph, we met about 7.30pm in DELS (Delmonicas) which is a mixed gay pub in Glasgow.

It was quite quiet at the start of the night so we only had a couple in there, I was on the “half” lagers, I never have liked drinking a BIG PINT all to myself, it’s not because my hands are so small that I can’t hold a pint glass, I just feel like a dick with a big pint.

The thing is no one likes buying me a half pint of lager because they feel stupid, you can’t win!

Half lagers were all I was drinking because I didn’t want to get as drunk as I did the last (few) times I had been out. I am still nursing a big bruise on the back of my shoulder from falling down the last few steps of the Polo (Mixed Gay Nightclub in Glasgow) stairs.

Ouch, it still really hurts, I told Steph last night about it, and she asked what bit hurt, when I pointed to it, she proceeded to jab the sore part repeatedly with her big boney finger!

Thanks for that Steph!

Anyway, I am sick of waking up in agony from scrapes and falls so I was determined I would not neck every alcoholic drink I could get my hands on, and instead have a nice sober(ish) night out for once.

Famous last words…

FHQ Glasgow Lesbian Bar John Street

Some of you will know that I am often found sitting with my friends in FHQ the Ladies Only Lesbian Bar.

It is situated in Glasgow City Centre, on John Street, you could actually miss it because there is no big illuminated flashing sign outside it, there is simple a small concrete rectangle on the wall outside it, with FHQ carved into it.

FHQ (Female Head Quarters) is a Lesbian Only Bar, well Women only bar, I don’t suppose you have to be a lesbian to get in FHQ!

You go up a winding stair case to the top and enter into Glasgow’s FHQ, for those of you who may feel a bit self conscious, then I am afraid there is no hiding, due to the open plan of FHQ you basically get seen by everyone when you enter!

The bar is located at the back of the room and the toilets are to the left of the bar.

There are actually two sets of winding staircases, one leads down to Speak Easy, a mixed gay bar (men and women) and the other is the staircase you came up to come into FHQ.

I will mention that there are plans to allow men in FHQ, perhaps on the quieter days or nights, but as far as I am aware, you will need a female to sign you in if you are male.

Lesbian Bars In Glasgow or Edinburgh Scotland

Ok… so who fancies a night out on the Glasgow Lesbian Gay Scene?

Don’t all rush up or down to Glasgow, I am not saying that we don’t have some great lesbian bars / pubs or clubs, but sadly the talent on offer may have you singing “who let the dogs out” quicker than you think!

Seriously though, there are some good lesbian or gay bars in Glasgow, I will also discuss the Edinburgh ones, but only having been once I am no expert on the Edinburgh Lesbian Gay Scene.

Let me first tell you about my experience at the Edinburgh Lesbian Gay Scene…

IT TOOK ME 18 YEARS TO COME OUT AS A LESBIAN…HERE IS HOW I DONE IT!

I am not sure if other lesbian ladies will think that my coming out story is funny, but to me it personally was!

Did I want to come out as a Lesbian to my Parents?

Not particularly!

In fact, I could think of nothing worse than people finding out I was a lesbian!

I had been hiding in the closet, or had been in denial of being gay since I was around 11 years old, and at 29 years old I finally had my very first time lesbian experience.

I will discuss my relationships, and there are quite a few, in later blog posts, but I wanted to share my funny lesbian coming out story first!

I am not sure if it will encourage other Glasgow lesbians or worldwide lesbians to come out, or inspire them to use the same method of coming out as a lesbian but it may put a small smile on your face at least.
