11 Ways To Come Out As A Lesbian By Glasgow Lesbian Author

Ok, so we all know how difficult it can be coming out as Gay or Lesbian.

Even in this day and age, being gay / lesbian or bi-sexual still has some stigma attached to it.

Although the world has become a more gay or lesbian friendly place, many people are still very bigoted and refuse to accept homosexuality.

But the more people that come out as being gay the better, when people who are narrow minded about sexuality are confronted with a loved one, or friend being gay, their views are challenged and often changed.

Being Gay does not mean the death sentence, well not in the UK it doesn’t and if this type of sentence applies anywhere worldwide, then we should all do everything we can to stop homosexual gay or lesbian persecution.

After all, if God created us this way, then who are we to argue?

None of us made a choice at birth to be gay or lesbian, just like “straight” people, we simply find the same sex has more attractive features than the opposite sex.

As a Glasgow Lesbian, living somewhat in the dark ages, I did struggle to come out, but I got there in the end.

I hope you find the courage and or inspiration to come out as a Lesbian too.

So here are my top eleven ways to come out as a Lesbian:

1. Advertise In Your Local Newspaper

Ok this is highly unlikely but a spectacular way to come out as a Lesbian, it may be expensive but the exposure will give you your money’s worth!

2. Bebo / FaceBook / Squidoo

Social Networking is all the rage today, with almost everyone having some sort of account.

Simply sign up, find friends and family, and make a post about coming out.

Bob’s your uncle, everyone knows you are gay.

The gossip mongers will be in their element and spread your news quicker than wild fire!

3. Face To Face

Just come right out and say it!

Yes, be brave and talk tell people to their face, if you are worried about this see option Get Drunk!

4. Telephone

A very abrupt approach and takes a lot of nerve.

Not for the faint hearted!

If you have the guts, call the people most important to you and avoid doing it face to face!

5. Texting

Texting has become an everyday occurrence in this day and age.

Compile your text message and send it to all your mobile phone contacts.

This will take you under 5 minutes and once the text has been sent, there is no going back!

6. Write A Letter

This was my own method of coming out as a Lesbian to my Mother.

I tried other methods and “chickened” out, so writing a letter was very easy.

Once I handed over the letter, I couldn’t go back.

I found it easy to pour my heart into a letter as I had written it alone and avoided a face to face confrontation.

7. Get Caught

For this method you will need a hot or not lesbian.

Your sole purpose of being caught in a compromising situation that seals your new gay status!

You could ensure you get caught in bed with a fellow lesbian, or get caught kissing a lesbian in public.

Being caught in a Gay Bar or Pub is not a good choice, because many straight people go to gay bars!

8. Tell a Big Mouth

Yes, confide in the Office Gossip!

You know, the person who just cannot keep a secret.

Let them know you are gay and before you know it, the whole village, town or city will know about your sexuality.

In fact if you are really brave… Make a move on the Gossip!

Yes. try to kiss them and wait for the reaction, which will go one of two ways…

She will love it or hate it!

Be prepared for her to love it, and do not get stuck with someone wanting you more than you want them!

9. Get Drunk

Pour alcohol down your throat, no enough to kill you, just enough to give you the courage to do any of the coming out techniques I have mentioned!

Be warned, you will wake up from your drunken state to an awareness of coming out to Tom, Dick and Sally!

But by then, it will be too late, and again your sexuality will have been revealed.

10. State The Obvious

Go down the butch lesbian route, shave your head, buy Timberland Boots, wear male clothes and underwear!

Be the typical butch lesbian and people will soon get the idea.

For the fun element, sing songs such as “I’m a Lumberjack And I don’t Care” or “I Kissed A Girl And I Liked It” etc etc.

11. A TV Appearance

Yes that’s right, ideally Big Brother would be a great platform to launch your new lesbian status from!

However we don’t all have the charm, wit or lack of brains to get on Big Brother!

So instead attend Gay Lesbian Pride Days.

There is normally live TV coverage or at least newspaper coverage, so get your face plastered all over it.

Preferably attached to a female’s lips, and let the pictures do the talking!

Well that’s my top eleven methods of coming out as a lesbian.

I hope one of the above ideas helps you to come out as a modern day lesbian!

Of course they are a bit tongue in cheek, but as us Lesbians like a bit of tongue I hope you liked reading my post!

My coming out story.hmm……… well I went to a party with my friends and we decided to play bingo and a hot girl came by to join us. We played and at one point, one of her cards fell on top of me so she reached down to get it (i thought.) But instead she grabbed my groin and it was sooooo good and all I said was “BINGO!!!!” Ha ha, that’s my funny part of my coming out story. That’s all. Hope you liked it!

Hi Sally! I’m actually reading your blog backwards(from your latest blog to when you started blogging). Gosh! they’re so addictive. Anyways, I’ve only come out to my friends (who embraced me with all their might), i haven’t to my family though… and this post is very helpful. I think I’m gonna use the letter thing. I’m from the Philippines and though the gay community is getting larger and out, the society isn’t (as a whole) actually welcoming “us” with open arms. Yup! they hate the idea! In urban areas, they quite understand the gay community and that somehow lessens discrimination. I envy your country, it sounded like you really have special place where gays, lesbians, and straights can go to and that they actually get along with. When I’m old enough (I’m still 18), I’ll definitely explore more places!

You really write well Sally, more power!
